We boarded a plane for a 4 hour flight to Atlanta. B rode as a lap child and all in all did pretty well. He even slept for an hour of the flight. Unfortunately, he would only sleep when Rob help him so poor daddy's arm got pretty sore.
We got to Atlanta at about 8. We were a little hungry and had a 4 hour drive ahead of us so we decided to stop by Wendys and get a quick sandwich for dinner. Little did we know, their idea of FAST food was not the same as ours. It took about 20 minutes just to get a $1 chicken sandwich. Oi vay! Not what we needed after a day of traveling, but we all survived and eventually got back on the road. We drove through some great little Alabama towns. It was late at night and nobody was on the roads so they all felt a little creepy. Seeing these little towns just keep popping up made the drive go much faster. In one of the towns there was a police check point. They asked us for license and proof of insurance, so Rob gave the officer his license while Robin checked the glove compartment for the insurance card in our rental car. The officer saw the AZ license and the Florida plate and quickly put together that we were out of towners. He quickly sent us on our way. Apparently we did not blend in with the normal crowd that is out and about in a small town at midnight. I guess that's a good thing.
We arrived at grandma and granddads at about 1:00am. Rob, B and I headed off to Claudia's (Rob's aunt) house and Kay and Robin settled in there. We were all tired and ready for bed.

We woke up and headed off to church. The name of the branch out there is called the Olive Branch. Clever huh! The branch was super tiny. I think the total in attendance for sacrament meeting was about 30and 10 were visitors. It was neat to attend such a small branch.
On the big plot of land lives Grandma and Granddad, Claudia and Ken, and Ronald and Julie with their two kids. So as you can imagine everyone just goes from house to house.
After church we went and had a big family dinner at Ronald and Julie's. Claudia's kids all came and we had a great time!
Monday, October 10, 2011 Destin/Fort Walton
This was a side we saw on our way to Destin. It was in the city of Niceville. To my dismay, this was referring to a Mullet FISH Festival. Too bad... a festival dedicated to the mullet haircut would have made my day.
In Destin, we ate at a restaurant called Fuddpuckers. I was extremely excited to see that they had fried alligator tail on the menu. You know I had to try that. It wasn't bad, a little tough but the flavor was good.
This restaurant had an alligator exhibit too. Here are some fun pics!
B had to rock the white turtle neck because he drooled all over his other shirt and soaked it right through. We didn't bring his jacket and it was getting cold so we picked up this number from the local Walmart. It's classy right? Ps My apologies for the hair and make up. The humidity did not treat me so well, but it felt great on the skin!
B loved this alligator! Just the right size for him to play with!
We went to Ronald and Julie's for dinner and all B wanted to do was play in the dogs cage. I wish I would have taken a picture of him in with the dog. It was great!
Tuesday, October 11, 2011 Kickin itOn Tuesday, we just kicked it with grandma and granddad. Rob and Robin helped granddad with his garden and the rest of the day we just chilled.
The clouds were so low they even covered the top of the radio tower.
B LOVED the goats. Every time we walked by he would get so excited. B started walking more on this vacation. I think it was because we were always outside so we didn't let him crawl much.
B making faces at the chickens! Best photo of the whole trip!
B loved climbing Claudia's stairs. Rob also decided that while we were in Florida B had to leave his shirt unbuttoned. Hilarious!
We went for a walk with Kay to this little bridge. There were tons of little creeks everywhere. Notice the thick forest on the banks. The country is so beautiful out there.
We fit right in don't we!
Sittin on the front porch... watching the cars go by...
This picture is for my nephew who loves big trucks! In this part of Florida logging is very popular. We would see logging trucks like these everyday driving by. Too bad B is still small he would have loved seeing these.
On Wednesday we went the Naval Aviation Museum. It was incredible. They had planes and helicopter from several different eras. The cockpits were open on many of the planes so we were able to sit inside.
You can't be a Hurt if you don't get a picture with the gun!
We went on a 3D simulation ride. You could make it do loops and barrel rolls. We had a lot of fun!
An actual space capsule. Super tiny! I have no idea how the astronauts were able to ride in those things. I would be majorly claustrophobic!
I think I would have fit right in during the 1940s and 1950s.
I have always LOVED lighthouses!
Hanging out by the garden to rest from our crazy day! It was so nice having Robin and Kay with us!
That night Jesse, Rob's cousin, took us fishin in a little creek. We used crickets as bait. I carried them back to the creek. I was a little freaked out. I don't like crickets! I could touch the fish but I could not bait my own hook because it meant I had to touch a cricket!
My catch! I ended up catching 3 small Brim fish. Go me!
Cleaning my fish. I think Jesse cleaned like four fish in the time it took me to clean one. Oh well, I am a city girl. Give me time... I will fit right in!
Thursday, October 13, 2011 Panama City
On Thursday, Robin, Rob and I headed to Panama City to go on an air boat ride. Kay kept B for us since he was too little. Thanks Kay! We were not able to schedule a ride until midday so we went and ate at the Waffle House. By the way, there are Waffle Houses everywhere! Then we headed down to the beach to pass the time. The sand was so white. This was my first time to the Gulf of Mexico. I made sure I got my feet in the water!
This was in the parking lot for our air boat ride. Notice all the Spanish Hanging moss. That how you know you are in the swamp!
It decided to rain for about 10 minutes and delay us a little bit. But what a pretty place to wait.
When we got onto the air boat we saw a couple of dolphins swimming around. It was awesome! We took a ride up the Inter Coastal. Then we went up an inlet that if we would continued up it would have turned into fresh water. It was beautiful!
Friday, October 14, 2011 Boiled Peanuts/Black River
On Friday we drove through a new naval base in town. Then we stopped in Milligan to get boiled peanuts. We tried to get some earlier in the week but they were cold and gross. These ones from Milligan were quite tasty! This guy grows his own peanuts and boils them in these large pots for hours then serves them hot!
On the way home we stopped at Kennedy Bridge which goes over Black River. B loved it. He would crawl into the water and back out over and over again. I think he could have stayed all day if we would have let him.
We loved getting to see Grandma and Granddad
Four Generations
It wouldn't be the south if you didn't sit on the front porch with a gun.
B and Toad (Ronald and Julie's dog) wanted in the house.
Grandma fried up some catfish and brim. Fins, bones, and all. This is the proof that I ate it. It was pretty good.
All good things must come to an end. We decided to drive to Atlanta Friday night and stay in a hotel because our flight was early Saturday. On the way out of town we drove down this beautiful road, and Robin spotted these tasty-looking berries. Not knowing what they were, we opted not to taste them.
We gassed up at an old gas station. Doesn't that pump look so vintage!
When we arrived in Andalusia, Alabama we stopped to take a picture with the pig at the local Piggly Wiggly.
We stayed at a Marriott right next to the airport. However, they had run out of cribs so had to get creative. I think we did a great job and B slept like a baby! What a trooper!
This is how B wanted to sit the entire flight but we didn't think the airline would like it so we could only do it when the flight attendants weren't looking.
Bon Voyage! We had so much fun on our trip! We can't wait to go back. Thanks to all of Kay's family for giving us a place to sleep, visit, hang out, play games, and eat lots of yummy food!
